Relationships Matter

If you keep up with me through my newsletters or social media, you know I travel to Africa often. It’s actually part of my job, and I think it’s pretty great!

Did you know that Adventures in Missions has sent missionaries to over 60 countries? Or that we have sent 100,000 people worldwide since we started 25 years ago? We are both excited and humbled that the Lord has used our ministry to have this sort of reach for many people to many places.

As you can probably imagine, it takes a team to steward this ministry well. We have over 100 committed staff, all playing a variety of roles in our mission of to mobilize a generation of radical Christ followers, discipling and training them to establish the Kingdom of God.

My role in all of this is to oversee what we do in Southern Africa. We partner with over 100 missionaries, pastors, and organizations there. Over 300 of our missionaries served in this part of the world last year. When our teams serve somewhere, it takes months of coordinating between me and our ministry partners to make it happen. Once the team arrives, the goal is for them to immediately do what they came to do – to love and serve!

The glue that holds all this together is building personal relationships with the ministries we serve. Often, I do this through phone, Skype, and email from our office in Georgia. A few weeks out of the year, I get to go visit these people in person!

With Africa having a relational culture, meeting in person is crucial to the ministry we do. One such opportunity to meet in person came a few weeks ago. I got to meet with a ministry partner who has hosted over a hundred of our missionaries. After hours of planning various projects with him over email and the phone from the States, we were finally able to sit down and enjoy a meal together. We shared about our lives, visions for our ministries, and set a stronger foundation for serving hand in hand in the future.

I would love to increase the relational aspect of the ministry we do in Africa, and there is a way you can actively help with this. I currently spend an entire day each week, as well as a couple evenings, focusing on raising support. It’s my hope to devote more of this time to ministry. To serve in this role, I am responsible for raising $1,000 a month. I currently have $375 committed each month. I’m grateful to already have a few monthly supporters, but I am in need for more people to come alongside me each month.

By becoming a monthly supporter, you will be playing an active role in the ministry we are doing here:

  • A monthly gift to Adventures in Missions will give me the peace of mind that I will be able to continue doing work for the Kingdom.

  • Monthly gifts keep me accountable to you. Ministry can keep me busy, and sometimes it’s easy to forget to write a blog or send a newsletter. I want to hold up my end of the bargain by letting you know what’s happening here!

  • Finally, it gives me confidence in the work we are doing here. I have someone who I know is giving every month because they see what I am doing and believe it’s worth their money to invest in the ministry.

My ask is that you would pray about becoming a monthly supporter. I’m looking for supporters to join me at the following levels:

$25 /month – 5 people

$50 /month – 2 people

$100 /month – 1 person

If you’re ready to give, you can set up your monthly donation here. Do you have questions first? I’d love meet with you while I’m in Iowa. I will be home August 25th – September 11th. You can reach me at [email protected] or on Facebook.

I appreciate your prayerful consideration of supporting this ministry!
